More information:
Not long after the first motorcars arrived in Tasmania people started modifying the chassis and attaching commercial bodies. They created the first working trucks of Tasmania, and used them to transport people and goods.

This change in transportation opened up commercial opportunities and helped with the progression of remote communities. Trucks linked up with ships at the port and with the trains that travelled from one end of the state to the other. Trucks were used in mining to cart rocks and machinery on the west coast, in agriculture to transport apples from the Huon to Sullivans Cove, and in the cities transporting goods from factories to the retail stores in the CBD.

Old Working Trucks of Tasmania explores how the common truck that we see every day developed in Tasmania from the early days of trucks up to 1970. Featuring hundreds of photos with the history of some of the trucking firms and individuals who made it through the years. Some have gone, but they left a legacy that still lives on.
